Escapism is the theme for a series of works that are my inquiry into how our surroundings, landscapes, seascapes and cityscapes can momentarily reset our minds.

Painted in an expressionist style, the scenes are depicted with the aim of awakening the viewer's dream state. This done capturing depth, mood and light through multiple lenses. A theatre of movement plays out in the panoramas, that I am keen to capture through an interplay of emotions.

Drawing inspiration from my travels, absorbing scenes and textures on the move, I make observations with sketches and visual notes. After exploring initial ideas and developing colour playlists, I paint with a limited palette applying the paint using rapid brushstrokes and unusual mark making tools, such as driftwood and dried thistles.

I embrace the spontaneity, transparency and viscosity of watercolour for smaller works. Working with acrylics enables me to express textures differently and work in larger formats to create a more immersive experience.

Kristian Bluff (b.1963 in Chiswick, an artist community in London) is an Anglo-Dane with his practice in Copenhagen.

Educated in creative disciplines including a BTEC course at Arts University Plymouth, a BA in graphics at The Royal Danish Academy in Copenhagen and an MBA at the University of Westminster he worked in the creative industries.

Largely self-taught, Kristian is an emerging professional artist exhibiting in Copenhagen, London, Malmø and Sao Paulo. He is represented by the Nordic Art Agency in Malmø, Sweden. He is a member of the Chelsea Arts Club and the Visual Artist Association in London.
